Hello to all Mount Rainier High School Class of 1974 classmates! I write today about recent changes to this website, a change in the newsletter, and a new group email service.

Website changes

Since the 50th Reunion is concluded, the website name has also changed. Gone is the reference to the reunion. Now the site is simply the MRHS Class of 1974 website. Sometime this fall I’ll simplify the menus, too.

Newsletter change

The MailerLite service we were using for the reunion newsletter was becoming very difficult to manage. What used to be easy became hard. What used to be hard became nearly impossible. Accordingly, we switched to Beehiiv as our newsletter host. The output from the Beehiiv system may not be as pretty as what MailerLite produced but it is clean and easily readable. The simpler layout will probably appeal to most of us, too.

Subscribe today at https://mrhs1974.beehiiv.com/subscribe. If you’d like to see what the newsletter looks like, jump to the Newsletters page to see the new September issue. There is a subscribe link at the top and bottom of that page.

I am currently collecting content for the October issue. I’ll be in Wichita, Kansas when October starts but should have time to publish the October newsletter from my hotel room.

New group email service

The Reunion Committee received several requests for a way for classmates not on Facebook to contact each other. One of the conditions, though, was a desire expressed by quite a few classmates to keep their email address private. After some searching, we settled on a service called Gaggle Mail.

The MOUNT RAINIER 1974 group currently has 43 classmates subscribed. Classmates can join the group at https://gaggle.email/join/mrhs1974@gaggle.email. Once you are subscribed, you can choose to receive every email as it arrives or get a digest of emails instead.

The service is configured in “incognito mode” which simply means your email address is hidden when you post to the group. People who read your post have the option to “reply to sender” or “reply to the group”. Use the “reply to sender” feature to reach out privately to another classmate when needed.
