Reunion Group – November 16

The MRHS 50th Reunion planning group met on the evening of November 16th via Zoom. Rob Fletcher called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm PST.

The first order of business was setting the next meeting for December 7, 2023, at 7:00 PM PST.

Post-reunion brunch

The group discussed whether to have an after-reunion brunch on Sunday morning, August 4, 2024. This idea was met with general approval so additional investigation will be made regarding room rates, meal options, etc.

New Committees page on website

Discussion was held about the new Committees page on the website, available at https://mrhs1974.us/resources/committees/. This page was created in response to a few requests for a list of committees and committee members.

Related to this page of committees is a category structure for posts that reflects the names of committees. The thinking here is that as we continue to work toward creating and delivering the 50th reunion event, each committee will be working and reporting on progress. We can capture those reports here, and the category links will allow classmates to look at only what they are most interested in. For example, posts that involve the Finance Committee’s work are shown at https://mrhs1974.us/topics/reunion/committees/finance/.

During the meeting, a request was made to add the ability for classmates to volunteer for committees. A form was added at https://mrhs1974.us/contact/help-committee/ for this purpose.

Handling of payments

La Jean Heim Rohland is serving as the de facto treasurer for the reunion, with assistance from Catherine Morris Brady. The group asked if she was willing to receive payments by mail at her address, and with her agreement, this was decided.

Rohland also shared a form she had put together to help document reunion expenditures.

Committee reports

Class Alumni Search and Invite Committee

Tom Salzer reported that he and Karen Mueller-Wohlfert had had a phone conversation since the last meeting to discuss approaches. They believe the best way to find missing classmates is to enlist the class in finding them.

Kerry Brown had asked for a single listing of missing classmates he could share with other classes. Salzer put together such a list from the class database and made a page for it: Missing Classmates.

Decorations and Entertainment Committee

A few items were discussed but the group moved quickly to the Finance Committee report.

Finance Committee

Rohland presented a spreadsheet showing three versions of a draft budget for the reunion. The versions addressed costs related to the number of attendees. Group members expressed concern about the per person cost if only 100 people attended, but were happier with the per person cost if more people attend.

Much discussion occurred around the cost of a DJ and the cost of professional photography services. Other costs were discussed. While more work needs to be done on determining costs, the spreadsheet gave all group members a better understanding of the cost of delivering a great reunion experience to our classmates.

Food and Beverage Committee

The committee spoke to appetizers, salads, and other options to enhance the dining experience at the reunion. Bartending options were also discussed. It was noted that it has been a long time since any of us actually bought a keg of beer!

Golf Tournament Committee

No report was available at this meeting.

501(c)(7) Legal Formation Committee

Committee members described the work accomplished to date on crafting proposed bylaws. The next project was to write the articles of incorporation and make sure the articles do not conflict with the bylaws.

Rob Fletcher asked this committee to try to have a firm proposal for the December 7th meeting.
