Hello everyone in the Mount Rainier class of 1974.
There is a core group of us who are continuing to meet and work to prepare for our 50th-year graduation celebration. Here’s a short recap of what we have accomplished so far.
1: We have a class reunion website
Please check it out at https://mrhs1974.us/
A very big THANK YOU to Tom Salzer for setting up our website. On the website please provide updated contact information for you and let us know if you plan to attend any of our 50th reunion events. We are also looking for features and news items for the website.
2: Main event at Taylor Mountain Ranch
The main social event for the reunion will be held at Taylor Mountain Ranch on Saturday, August 3, 2024, with attendee arrivals starting at 4:30 PM and dinner being served around 6 PM.
Taylor Mountain Ranch is located at 28603 SE 204th St, Maple Valley, WA 98038
One of our class members, Brad Goodspeed, owns and operates a catering service. A group of us met with Brad at Rhonda Pettigrew’s home in Federal Way a few weeks ago where Brad prepared a variety of food options. Thank you to Rhonda and Mark Clark for hosting the food-tasting event! The consensus was that Brad is the guy we will be going with for catering services. Brad has generously offered to provide food and beverages at his cost to the class reunion event. He will need help and involvement from about twelve members of our class to support the food-serving activities. Please let us know if you are interested in helping.
3: Still estimating costs
We are still estimating costs for the Taylor Mountain Ranch event and will soon have a per-person price. We are working to allow secure and safe payments for reservations to the Taylor Mountain event on the class website, but also intend to accept payment for the event by check.
4: Golf tournament on August 2nd
On Friday afternoon August 2nd, 2024 starting at 1:30 PM a golf outing/tournament is being organized. It is scheduled at the Auburn Golf Course located at 29630 Green River Rd SE, Auburn, WA 98092. It’s open to any and all players of all skill levels. The goal is to have fun. Greg Jones has, thankfully, been willing to help coordinate the golf event. Fees for this event will be paid directly to the Auburn Golf Course. More information will be posted soon about the tournament. If you’re interested please let us know. Thank you Greg for your help on this.
5: No-host mixer on August 2nd
An informal, casual, no-host get-together/mixer is planned on Friday, August 2nd, 2024 starting around 5:00 pm at the All-Star Sports Bar, located at 22303 Marine View Dr S, Des Moines, WA 98198 (at the corner of S 223rd Street and Marine View Drive S). This restaurant serves a variety of food along with both non-alcohol and alcoholic beverages. No reservations are required so this is a show-up-as-you-are event. Any items purchased by you are your responsibility and will be paid by you directly to the All-Star Sports Bar.
6: October is outreach month
For the month of October one of the main activities is to start contacting people in our class to let them know about the 50th year reunion events. We want everyone to attend. We need help reaching out and to start contacting class members to inform them and invite them to participate. Please let us know if you can assist.
7: Reunion planners needed
We also need people to help in planning the reunion itself. Several committees are now being formed. If you would like to help out, please let us know. Granted, we’re trying to keep this all pretty straightforward and not filled with too many activities. But there are still many details that need planning and organizing. Even if you can only contribute a few hours a month, that would be very helpful and we would love to have you involved.
That is it for now…but more information will be coming soon. Be sure to check out the website at https://mrhs1974.us
